About Me

My name is Brian J. Murphy, and I am a high school teacher currently with the Bellevue School District in Washington State. I have been studying Curriculum and Instruction at Seattle Pacific University since the winter of 2009, when I was admitted into the Masters of Education program. Before studying at SPU, I earned my undergraduate degree in History and Secondary Education from Bridgewater State College in Massachusetts. I chose to become a teacher because of the experience that I had with my own high school teachers when I attended the Francis W. Parker Charter Essential School in Devens, Massachusetts. The school was the brainchild of education revolutionaries Dr.’s Theodore and Nancy Sizer, who inspired a school full of creative, autonomous and curious learners; something that I strive to do in my own classroom on a daily basis.

Outside of school, I have an amazing wife, a loving family and a crazy Springer Spaniel. I love teaching, skiing, hiking, reading, travel, and spending time with my loved ones.
